Occupational Health, Safety and Injury Management Manager - People, Learning & Culture
My history at The Spastic Centre
I started with The Spastic Centre 11 years ago as a casual Direct Care Worker in Business Services. I then went on to work at all the South West Business Service sites (six at the time) as a direct care worker, assistant manager then manager of the enclave Fulfilment Partners in Marrickville.
From there I was offered the role of manager of the new proposed site at Campbelltown in 1996, which I developed and managed until becoming the Business Services Manager for the South West region in 2000. During this time I studied Business Management, Team Leadership, Quality Assurance, Small Business Management and Small Business Enterprise.
From 2000, I merged all six Business Services in the South West region to one large site in Wetherill Park and oversaw all operations, while continuing my studies and interest around Occupational Health and Safety.
In 2006 I was seconded to the role of Occupational Health and Safety Manager within the newly established Facilities Maintenance department. I also assist with the management of the current vehicle fleet within The Spastic Centre.
What I like about my role?
Diversity, hour-to-hour things change, it is extremely fast paced and rewarding while knowing I am making a difference supporting managers and staff.
What I get out of my role?
I get great satisfaction knowing that I am making a difference streamlining and facilitating processes that keep management and employees focused on their core business; the provision of services to clients and families.
I have found The Spastic Centre an exceptional employer who has supported me in every endeavour I have undertaken during the last 11 years. I have held many roles and have been given endless opportunities to further my skill development and chosen carer path. Above all I am respected, and work with an amazing talented team of people all of whom are the very fabric of The Spastic Centre.
