Quick Guide for the Media: TV Commercial transcript and description

Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week 2005 – National TV Commercial
Transcript and description

The TV commercial begins with a stylised image of the planet earth depicting various Sydney buildings. In the centre is a figure of a girl sitting in a wheelchair holding a teddy bear.

Human figures float towards the earth from the borders of the picture and position themselves around the girl. These figures include a business man with a briefcase, a vision impaired older woman with a walking stick, a man sitting at an office desk in a wheelchair, a woman holding a handbag and an infant holding a rattle.

While this movement is taking place, a male voice says, “In Australia it is estimated that every 18 hours a child is born with cerebral palsy. There is no pre-birth test, no known cure and the incidence of severe disability is on the increase. We can overcome our disability but only you can help us be part of the community. Take time to get to know us during Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week."

The image of the earth and people then fades and is replaced with a banner showing The Spastic Centre’s logo, including the sixtieth anniversary logo. Underneath this is the text, “Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week. We can overcome our disability but only you can help us be part of the community. 15 – 21 August 2005. Celebrating the achievements of adults and children with cerebral palsy. Get to know us at

While this text appears, the first two lines from the chorus of the song “Permission to Shine,” written by Bridget Benenate and sung by Vanessa Amorosi, is played.
