Sydney Employment Development Service (SEDS) is an open employment agency for people with a disability who are committed and motivated to finding a job that match their skills, interest and abilities.
The program utilises a unique five-point service approach. This covers the five major steps necessary for a person with a disability to secure a job.
1. Assessments
A review of the individual, their disability, and the barriers they face in finding and securing a job.
2. Vocational Counselling
A review of an individual's career goals and the suitability of the type of work they are seeking.
3. Marketing
Contact employers to see if they would like to be involved in the free program. Assisting the employer to identify suitable positions for people with a disability and advise them of what government assistance may be available.
Assist program participants at interviews and explain to employers about the program.
4. Placement
Provide training support to the new worker and assist with the interaction between the new worker and the supervisor.
Provide an educational "working alongside a person with a disability" program to the supervisor and co-workers.
Co-ordinate the purchase of any workplace modifications or government assistance required.
5. Post Placement Support
Provide ongoing support to both the worker and supervisor to ensure a long term viable placement.
Provide re-training or skills development of the worker, where required.
