Daisy TranDaisy Tran
Local resident Daisy Tran has achieved her employment goal of working in a Library. Daisy was seeking to enter the workforce after completing a Diploma in Library and Information Services at Sydney Institute of Technology & Further Education.

Daisy was born with a disability, Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy affects each person diffidently; in Daisy’s case, it was her speech and some mild hand functioning. Daisy said, “After several attempts to find work by myself, I found most employers didn’t give me a chance because of the way I speak.”

During a chat with a friend Karen, about the difficulties she was having in finding employment, her friend suggested she get assistance from a Disability Open Employment Service within her local area. Her friend Karen suggested SEDS – Out Reach Program, SEDS had assisted Karen just over a year ago as SEDS specialises in assisting people with physical or physical & multiple disabilities.

On joining, Daisy was teamed with an Employment Development Officer, whose role is to assist Daisy to secure the job she wanted. The EDO helped Daisy with her resume; interview skills and made calls to employers on behalf of Daisy because of her speech difficulties. Daisy said “Lots of employers thought I couldn't’t do the job because of my speech difficulties, but SEDS helps employers realise I could.”

Daisy has been working for almost 12 months and wants to become independent. Daisy said “I’Ave proved my value to the employer and now I want to make a space available to someone else on the program.”

SEDS currently has some places available on the employment program in Liverpool & Fairfield areas.
