Ruya CelikSimon Kim
Simon came to SEDS in 2004 to look for a job. At the time he was being assisted
by Northside Enterprise with prevocational skills development. In 2002 Simon completed a Certificate IV in Multimedia and a Diploma in IT Systems Admin at
Crows Nest TAFE.

SEDS linked Simon with Cowan Creek Consulting, a Sales & Marketing
Consultancy whose services also included web design. Cowan Creek
operates as a “think tank” with associates contributing their professional skills.

Simon has gradually built up his own linkages and contacts as well as contributing to the development of some major websites on a fee for service basis. He has developed his own website www.lindfieldphoto.com/simonsayz. You can view
a range of his work there and also read about his remarkable journey.

Simon is now working on the SEDS website.

Work is a major challenge for Simon. He has Duchene Muscular Dystrophy and has very limited physical movement. But he is determined that his skills can make a positive contribution to the Australian workforce.
This is reflected in words of his employer, Mike Coles, who says “that the workforce would miss out
on Simon’s abilities”
if he was not working.

Simon uses an on-screen keyboard to do his work, an accessibility function of Windows XP.

Since being with SEDS, Simon has had a remarkable working journey. Among other things he has worked
with the Hawker Pacific corporate crew to design their website. He has been filmed by TAFE NSW as an
example of success in vocational studies and by Korean television on life in Australia with a disability.

Simon’s big goals are to design more and more websites using his creative talents. His experience is both corporate and community based.

His other big goal is to be a role model demonstrating the contribution that people with disabilities can make to
the workforce and to life in general.

“SEDS has been a key factor in my employment success. They assisted me find a job, locate the technologies and assistive devices which have helped me working more easily. SEDS is an email
or a phone call away to assist”.
