IFSO family therapists visit and work with families to assist them to find strategies that will make a difference in their lives. Our approach is to assist people to develop confidence to use the ideas and approaches that best suit them.
Some of the things we may be able to help with are:
-
Managing child or teenage behaviour problems
-
Building parents’ confidence
-
Handling family relationship hassles
-
Managing stress
-
Living with the effects of a child’s disability
-
Planning daily routines
-
Finding useful information
-
Linking families to other support services
The service is:
-
Home based (or at a place that suits the family)
-
Available at a time to suit families
-
Time limited to 2-3 months (but families can be re-referred where appropriate)
If a family has other services involved, IFSO can (with the family’s permission), speak to other services to make sure the support is well coordinated. IFSO staff will work with families to link them up to longer term supports if needed.
